The dawn chorus is one of the delights of spring.
I used to wonder what it sounded like outside of the months of March April and May. In 1992 through to 1993, I went out early every two to three weeks to a woods about 8 kilometres from my home and made a few recordings of the chorus. I also noted the start time of each recording, then later at home I listed the species heard in each recording, from this information I found out some interesting things, most of which the narrator covers in this production.
This album was recorded in Ballyfad Wood near to the village of Coolgreany in the county Wexford Ireland. Equipment; A 2 track Uher 4200 open reel analogue recorder running at 19cm/s, the microphones were Sennheiser modular types, K3U bodies with Me20 heads.
My thanks to Padraig O’Mealoid for his reading of the narration, this was recorded in the R.T.E. studios in Donnybrook Dublin. Narration written by Fintan O’Brien. Artwork by Mary O'Doherty.
