My first trip outside Ireland to record birds was in 1997 to Finland to Patvinsuo National Park (It is about one third way up the country and very near to the Russian border).
I was using a small Sony D7 portable Digital Audio Tape recorder (D.A.T.) with a pair of Sennheiser K3U+Me20 microphones and a 20 inch fiberglass parabolic reflector. Two years later I returned to Finland with the same equipment and recorded in two other national parks, Seitseminen and Valkmusa. Here is the fruits of those trips.
